FAQs

How do I register for lessons?Big Blue Swim School FAQs
To register for swim lessons, you may sign up online or call us at 847.729.7665.

When can I sign up?
You can sign up for lessons at any time! We run on a perpetual enrollment cycle, meaning that regardless of your student’s skill level, we will have space for him or her to begin lessons year round.

How much do lessons cost?
Group lessons are $20 student per student, per 30-minute lesson. We also offer semi-private lessons at a rate of $30 per student per 30-minute lesson and private lessons at a rate of $60 per students per 30-minute lesson.

How long am I enrolled?
The best part of our perpetual enrollment cycle is that you are enrolled in lessons as long you want to be.
We require an initial commitment of two months of lessons. After your first two months, you remain enrolled
on a month-to-month billing cycle.  Should you wish to take a break from lessons, simply fill out our withdrawal form and
turn it in to our front desk.

How big are your classes?
We offer different class sizes based on a range of ages and skill levels. It is important to us that your swimmer
receives as much individual attention as possible while having fun with their friends. Non-independent swimmers
have a ratio of 2:1. Independent swimmers in our Guppy classes are 3:1. Our Dolphin and Barracuda classes have
a ratio of 4:1 in order to promote skill building in a small group environment. We also offer 2:1 semiprivate lessons
for all students, as well as private lessons for 1-on-1 attention. Our Junior Team is
capped at 6 swimmers per instructor.

Why do you have a two-month initial commitment?
While we know our method of teaching is fantastic, we also know that it takes more than 30 minutes to turn your
child into an amazing swimmer. Your first two months with Big Blue allow us to provide students with the intro-
duction to our program that will help them develop into great swimmers as they continue to progress through the
levels of our program.

Do you offer trial lessons?
Yes, we do offer trial lessons. If you are not yet ready to commit to Big Blue, you are welcome to try a lesson for
$20 per student. Each student may attend a maximum of one trial lesson.

Why don’t you have sessions?
We believe that students learn better in an uninterrupted environment. We are a continuous program and offer
lessons year round to promote constant growth in your swimmer. We offer the same schedule each month to
provide you with consistency in planning.

How do you determine what level my child gets placed in?
When you call to register, we will conduct an assessment over the phone to determine your swimmer’s skill set
and subsequent level placement. If we feel your child needs to be moved to a different level after their first lesson,
we will happily make that adjustment for you.

If I have kids at different levels can they swim at the same time?
Of course! We offer an array of levels during each half-hour block, which allows you to schedule lessons for multiple
students at the same time. Should your swimmers’ levels not be available together at your desired time, we will work
with you to find a different time of adjacent half hours to schedule your swimmers.

Can I request an instructor?
Requesting an instructor is some of the highest praise our staff can receive! We will work with you to find a day and
time with your requested instructor. Please understand that most of our instructors do not work every day and have
limited schedules. If the instructor you are requesting is not available, we will find a class for your child at your
requested day and time with a different teacher.

What if my child wants a teacher of a specific gender?
We understand that some students work better with an instructor of a specific gender and we will work with you to
find a day and time that  allows your swimmer to be with the requested male or female instructor.

Can I change my class time?
Yes, you are welcome to change your class. However, we ask that you limit your requests to permanent schedule
changes. We strive to keep lesson groups as consistent as possible and cannot accommodate schedule changes on
a week-to-week basis.

How do I change my day or time?
To change your day or time, please call us at 847.729.7665 or email us at info@bigblueswimschool.com with your
new day and time requests.

Do I need to change class times when my child moves up a level?
Due to the structure of the Big Blue program, students tend to progress from level to level as a class. Should your
child advance much faster than his or her classmates, we will look for a class at your current time at your child’s
new level. If a class is not available at your current class time, we will work with you to find a new time that fits
your schedule.

How do you bill for lessons?
Your initial two-month commitment must be paid prior to your child’s first lesson. This payment, along with
the one-time $35 registration fee, is taken during your initial registration. After your initial commitment, lessons
are automatically debited on the first of each month from the credit card you have provided us.

What happens if my payment fails?
For failed payments, regardless of payment method, your student will not be allowed to swim until payment for
that month’s lessons has been received. If you are just starting lessons with us, your student will not be allowed
to swim until the initial two-month commitment and registration fee has been paid. Students will not be allowed
to swim if they show up for unpaid lessons without a new form of payment. After one unpaid lesson has passed,
your account will be put on hold and your lesson slot will be forfeited. In order to reinstate your account, payment
must be received for the month. We do not guarantee that forfeited slots will remain available when reinstating a
suspended account.

Do you offer make-up lessons?
We offer one make-up lesson per swimmer, per month. To schedule a make-up you must use your online family account.
We understand that illness and emergency occur and that sometimes advance notice is not possible. Withdrawing from lessons
will lead to a forfeiture of make-up lessons for previously missed classes. We are unable to guarantee a specific instructor for make-up lessons,
and we do not offer make-up lessons for private lessons.

Is your pool warm?
Yes, very! We keep our pool water at 87⁰F and the air temperature at 91⁰F to ensure that our swimmers are
comfortable for the duration of their lesson.

What does my child need to bring to lessons?
Please make sure your child has a swimsuit, towel, and goggles for each lesson.

Does my child need a swim diaper?
If your child has not yet completed potty training, we require that he or she wear a regular diaper with a rubber
swim diaper cover over it.

Where are you located?
We hold lessons at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish at: 1776 Glenview Rd. |  Glenview, IL. 60025

to withdraw for the next month.
